Silhouettes of Greek Olympic Athletes
As the year winds down having art class and using a lot of materials can be daunting. Let’s admit it, we just don’t want to drag everything out AGAIN! But here’s an easy art project you can do and tie into a unit on ancient Greek civilization. It only requires a few materials and produces a very nice project.
You will need:
- Black and reddish-orange construction paper
- Markers
- Scissors
- Glue sticks
Directions
- Print samples of ancient Greek Olympic silhouettes to inspire your students
- Instruct them to cut the black paper so that it is two-thirds the height of the reddish-orange paper. This way the images will fit onto the the reddish-orange paper while still leaving room to draw a Greek-style border.
- Have students draw three figures on the black paper who are competing in the same event, but are in different poses.
- After the students have cut out their figures, allow them to glue them in what they consider the best positions on the reddish-orange paper.
- Instruct them to use a black marker to draw a border across the top and lower half of the paper, but not on the sides.
