Teaching Videos: King Nebuchadnezzar and the Second Rise of Babylon
Last week in class we studied ancient civilizations. We had just finished a rather long section on King Hammurabi and his codes when we came to a new civilization: the second rise of Babylon and King Nebuchadnezzar. Much to my disappointment, the textbook had only two short paragraphs about him. Fortunately there are seven chapters in the Bible book of Daniel that tell us about Nebuchadnezzar as well. He is not a figure to pass over
To prompt my students interest I shared a few parts of King Nebuchadnezzar’s story and then showed them this 55-minute video from YouTube.
It took us two sittings to watch the entire video, but the students remained interested throughout and took great notes using this handout.
I finished the lesson with another video that is not quite as informative, but still reinforces the idea of who King Nebuchadnezzar was and how he is connected to other interesting figures in history.
Sounds like it was a good lesson. Your use of different media to help students connect to the lesson is commendable.
